York & North of England Tour - 9 hours per day
This 4-day tour is ideal for visitors who really want to immerse themselves in the history of the North of England. In this tour we will take you through 3,000 years of history from as far back as the Bronze Age. There is something here for even the keenest history buff.
During these four days, we will visit the medieval historic towns of Alnwick, Durham, York and Corbridge as well as a few others along the way. Your guide will take you through the centuries from the earliest Bronze dwellers, to the Romans and the Vikings. But it doesn’t end there because each of these groups were eventually replaced by the Anglo-Saxons to form what became medieval England.
Here is a taster of what to expect on our tour:
Day One of this tour takes us on a beautiful coast drive from Edinburgh down to Bamburgh Castle and Alnwick Castle with a stop for lunch in a quant English pub.
Day Two takes us on our journey to York stopping at the stunning and historic Durham cathedral. The history here is vast and if you’re a Harry Potter fan you’ll recognise the Cloisters and the Chapter House. We can also visit Durham castle if you like as well as some lunch and a look around the idyllic shopping area. We will then head to York.
Day Three we explore York all day. York Minster, The Shambles, Clifford’s Tower, York Museum and Gardens, Walk the City Walls, Jorvik Viking Centre, visit Dick Turpin’s grave, visit the stunning ruins of St Marys Abbey.
Day Four we will start to head north and we will visit Corbridge Roman town and the wonderful Chillingham castle. It is said to be the most haunted castle in Britain. When you visit you will see why.
